Hyundai Bayon Bookings Open in India Ahead of Launch

Hyundai has opened bookings for its upcoming Bayon SUV in India, giving buyers their first opportunity to reserve the new model ahead of its expected festive-season launch.

The Bayon will be positioned between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s India SUV line-up. While Hyundai is yet to announce the final price and complete variant details, the company has already released several teasers revealing key aspects of the new SUV.

The Bayon takes a distinctly crossover-oriented approach to its design rather than following the traditional boxy SUV shape. At the front, it gets split lighting, with the LED daytime running lights positioned higher up and the main headlamp units mounted lower on the bumper. The front-end design also features a compact grille and sculpted surfaces.

From the side, the sloping roofline and rising window line give the Bayon a more car-like silhouette. A pronounced kink near the C-pillar, roof rails and flared wheel arches add some SUV character, while dual-tone alloy wheels further distinguish its profile.

The rear continues the same design theme, with distinctive LED lighting, a roof-mounted spoiler and a relatively clean tailgate carrying Hyundai and Bayon badging.

Hyundai has also previewed the cabin. The interior follows the company’s newer design direction and features a twin-screen dashboard layout.

The overall design shares several elements with the latest-generation i20 revealed in Brazil, including the steering wheel, dashboard arrangement and physical controls for the climate system.

The equipment list is yet to be fully confirmed, but the Bayon is expected to come with a long list of convenience and safety features. These could include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging and ambient lighting, while higher variants are expected to get advanced driver assistance features.

Under the bonnet, Hyundai has confirmed a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine borrowed from the Creta. It will be available with both a manual gearbox and an IVT/CVT automatic transmission.

The Bayon is expected to be slightly over four metres long, putting it in an interesting position within Hyundai’s SUV portfolio.

For the Indian market, the new SUV will go up against models occupying the increasingly competitive space between compact SUVs and larger midsize SUVs. More details on pricing, variants and equipment are expected closer to its official launch.
